Marilyn Monroe's 'Subway Dress' Sells For $4.6 Million
Everyone knows that the film industry is responsible for coming out with some of the most iconic dresses in fashion history. So how much would you pay for a piece of fashion (and film) history? $200,000? $300,000? What about a whopping $2 million?

That was the estimated selling price for the "Subway Dress" that Marilyn Monroe wore while posing over the updraft of a subway grating in the 1955 film “The Seven Year Itch.” Instead the iconic outfit was sold for $4.6 million.
The dress was part of actress Debbie Reynolds’ private collection and was auctioned off at Beverly Hills’ Paley Center for Media on Saturday. You may or may not be suprised to learn that Reynold's bought this dress for only $200 back in 1974.

Another dress that was apart of this 12-hour auction that Monroe wore was the red-sequined dress from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" which sold for $1.2 million, more than double its projected selling price.

The Ascot dress, another famous dress from the collection, worn by Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady” also sold for well above its estimate at $3.7 million. If anyone is a Dorothy fan, the blue-and-white gingham dress from The Wizard of Oz went down for $910,000. The auction also included costumes worn by Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Natalie Wood.
